Kit Bashing Challenge - The Winners!

The Tin Soldiers sebsite has been updated with winners for this year's Kit Bashing Challenge.  Congratulations to

Wendy Wethmar with bear number 7, Tiny Tim Toddler.  This bear got the most votes, a total of 77.  Well done, Wendy!

Wendy will receive a R 500 voucher to buy mohair at the Loubear online store.  www.loubear.com

Antoinette Naude and Sheila Bruessow’s names were drawn in the random selection for two additional winners.

The two names were selected using the services of www.random.org, where you can enter a list and have a random selection returned to you.  I have to tell you that Sheila must be one lucky lady.  Her name was chosen the first three times that I ran the list, and I had to retry a fourth time to get a second winner!

Antoinette and Sheila will each receive a set of bear making tools from Tin Soldiers.

Judging by the amount of interest we had in this year’s challenge, I don’t think we should wait another 10 years before we repeat the challenge.  We will announce a new challenge in October.  You can start thinking already what you would like to make!

Kit Bashing Challenge Vote Now!

We have several entries for this year's Kit Bashing Challenge, and one wants to be more beautiful than the other.  It almost seems like a pity that each person can have only one vote... Please add your vote before 25 February by viewing the entries at http://www.tinsoldiers.co.za/KitBashingChallenge2012.html  and emailing your vote to megbear99@gmail.com

Kit Bashing Challenge

Just a quick reminder that your kit bashing challenge photos need to reach me by Friday this week.  I have received quite a number already.  Looking forward to posting them to share with everyone!

Puppy Love is on the air

Puppy Love is finished! Here are pictures of the dog, and the workshop at Tin Soldiers last weekend. We will repeat the workshop on 3, 4, 24 March and 7 April.
The workshop includes Puppy, his romper and his alphabet blocks.

First came the romper.  Each participant hand painted their own design.
Another masterpiece hanged up to dry.
While we waited for the fabric to dry we got down to business constructing the puppy.

Colani came to check that we are doing it right.
Then we broke for lunch. All that work makes you hungry!

In the afternoon we painted patches and spots on our puppies with alcohol ink dye and got down to the final assembly of the dog.
Wow, wild!

Time to sniff the flowers

I have been working in short snatches on the puppy this week.  The little romper is nearly finished and I am liking it a lot.  You will have to wait for a picture until I am completely finished with it though.  During the first week of the month I always seem to work slowly on projects.  Not surprising, it is the week when there are teddy bear making lessons in the studio every day.  Tomorrow we have an all day bear making workshop.  Apart from preparing kits for the beginners, I like to make sure that the studio has a welcoming atmosphere.  Late this afternoon I took time out and picked wild flowers in the garden to put on the work tables.  If the day is not too hectic tomorrow, and I remember to take out the camera, I will take some pictures of a 'workshop in progress' so that you can see what the studio looks like.
Have a creative weekend!
