The Importance of New Year

Aliens might know everything about gyroscopic hyperdrives and faster-than-light travel, but these two don't have a clue about the importance of the New Year. That must be why they abducted me from my holiday, strapped me to a chair in a room that looks very much like my office, and pushed me into 2019 at a speed that holds me down with a force of about 10G. I can hardly keep my eyes open, never mind find the strength to tap on the keyboard.

But seriously, the proper thing to do is not to hurtle into the New Year in a blur. There's no better time to chart your course and make a few changes if needed. If you don't have any New Year's resolutions yet, jot down some ideas. It doesn't matter if your plans fail; it matters that you try.
Here are my tools for 2019. I'm not going to reveal my plans for the year ahead yet, but there are some clues. The diary was a gift from my husband, and the cover is significant.
This lovely planner and luxury pen were a gift from a friend who is much better at mapping out goals than I am. Thank you, it's going to help me so much!

Whatever star you reach for in 2019, I wish you a beautiful journey.

  2. Happy New Year, dear Megan, to you and yours!
I love the text on the planner, it's exactly what I do with blogging: I blog/write for myself and for sharing my miniture works. And by writing a blog I've met so much warmth, joy and friendship, which is very valuable, especially in the warm miniatures community...
I wish a good and beautiful journey for you in this brand new year!
    Hugs, Ilona

    1. And a happy New Year and Happy Birthday to you, Ilona! I love how your blog is a marriage of miniatures and real life events. One of the things I've learned over the years is that if one wants to be successfull as an artist, you have to give up not only your work, but also some of your personal life to the audience. They love to think that they get to know you, and that you are a real person just like them.

  3. You'd think if those guys were so intelligent they'd return us better than they found us. Like at least give us free lasik or something!!!
Us humans like to know there is a clean slate and a fresh start, and that mindset is priceless on any planet. I hope the year brings you round to believing that anything is possible, and even if we don't understand the dreaded "how's", it still works out anyway!

    1. Jodi, lasik would be one of the first things I would demand! And if they are really as clever as they think, they can throw in some fine motor skills for free.
As is to be expected, the force of gravitational spin has scattered some unplanned events into my life already this early in the year, but I'm determined to stay on track, even if I'm jogging a few days behind the Schedule Rabbit. I owe you an email. Coming soon!

  7. Happy New Year! As it turns out blogging is one hobby and miniature crafting is another. I envy the bloggers that are fluent with words and an gracefully combine the two. Let the diary be filled with brilliant ideas!

    1. Happy New Year, Drora! I enjoy reading blogs and yours is one of them. Being a writer and knowing smidgens of psychology and marketing too, I'm always mentally scoring other people's blogs when I read them, and comparing to my own. Some of the things I'm going to concentrate on this year are better pictures, less words, and staying on topic. With good pictures, a blog needs fewer words and few people really want to read long blogs anyway. Topics are a problem for me because I sometimes feel that I don't have anything new to show, but it's important to blog regularly. With my planner, I am working out a strategy to balance topics and it's going to help me to get more work done too. I'm even wondering whether it would be a good idea to publish an occasional blog with blogging tips for miniaturists?

  8. Your husband's gift indicates that there is nothing Alien about him. He sounds like a thoughtful, considerate and practical kinda guy and how blessed you are to have someone who cares and supports your passions.
    Happy New Year Megan! :D

    1. Happy New Year, Elizabeth! The poor man doesn't always get appreciated enough. Living with a miniaturist is tough. I think you will appreciate that when you read my latest blog post.

  9. Happy New Year - life's to short to care about what aliens are thinking. *LOL* I'm really not into New Year's resolutions (if something needs to be changed or started any day of the year will do) but I like the idea that a new year is like an open, blank book with 365 pages that need to be filled. I don't know how many pages your lovely planners have - but I'm sure you're going to fill them with good stuff!

    1. Birgit, if the aliens don't bring miniatures when they come to barter, they can fly right past!
I'm always telling myself that a New Year can start any day on the calendar if you want to get something done but for the last few years, I find myself hoarding up my ideas to put into action at a later date. One of the reasons is that I seem to always have more plans than time. It's nice to have a blank new diary, to sit down and look at my list of projects, and to write them down in a way that is realistically doable.
