A Love Triangle and a Happy Divorce

Everything's fine at home, thanks for asking! Ha ha, but now that I have your attention, let me tell you the sordid details of my social media affair. It's a really boring post so I tried to put a fun spin on it. Skip right past if blogging problems and websites are not your thing.

When I created this blog, it was about products and workshops in my studio. In time, the blog gathered a following of people who have become friends and I started chatting about more personal things. My business is also evolving and I progressed from having a physical shop to trading online. This created a quandary because I don't want to spam you, my friends, with marketing posts.

At one time, we bloggers noticed that the Blogger platform was staggering around like a drunk with amnesia and I wanted to have a backup blog in case Google pulled the plug on us. So, I started a Wordpress blog and hooked it up with my Blogger account. Not the ideal marriage, but it kept things stable for a while.

Then I rebuilt my business website and a sexy, new, business blog came on the scene. Uh oh, love triangle. I had a Wordpress blog, Blogger blog, Website blog, and they were all tangled up in the same domain.

On the 7th of December, I had to request my domain hosting company to perform a divorce between the Blogger blog and the Wordpress blog  to eliminate the conflict. Sadly, the result was that they both disappeared off the internet and for a whole month no one could see this blog. Eventually, we figured out that the culprit was something called a 'naked URL'. Oh my gosh, don't ask me to explain that, just look it up on Google.

With a lot of help from the technical team at the domain hosting company, things are now finally straightened out. The Blogger blog and the Wordpress blog have happily parted company for ever. Blogger will be where I chat with you, my friends, and Wordpress will be the business blog.

Some of the same posts might appear on both, but look slightly different.

So, if you only want to receive business-related posts in future, you can unfollow this blog and follow the blog at CreativeMe instead:

https://www.creativeme.co.za/blog/

The Blogger Megan's Tiny Treasures blog (which you are reading here) will have more frequent posts - the same posts as the business blog minus the marketing plus the personal stuff.

Unfortunately, as sometimes happens in a divorce, you can't get rid of your ex entirely. Megan's Tiny Treasures (this blog) has to retain its married name for legal reasons. In future, you can follow this blog under two names:

http://www.blog.creativeme.co.za/
or
www.meganstinytreasures.blogspot.com/

If you received a notification twice for my last two posts, you might be subscribed to both. Try to unsubscribe from one, it doesn't matter which.

So that's it my friends. Social media drama over. I tried to explain what's happening in a way that's not too dry. I'm certainly much happier that I now have a personal space where I can be myself without penalty, and a professional space where I can put marketing blogs.

Thank you to every reader for being a light out there in the darkness.

The blog is dead, long live the blog!

  2. Well, you did get my attention. I’m glad all is well in your household and in blog land. It’s funny, when I set out to create a website for our miniatures club I asked two family members who worked at Google and another one who is an online college professor what platform to use. They were unanimous about not using Google’s blogger. The professor advocated Wordpress. Everything has gone smoothly for the club site and with my personal blog that I added later. On the rare occasion that I have a question or problem, I just contact a Wordpress Happiness Engineer.

    1. Sherrill, this blog exists since before Wordpress became the standard in blogging. Now that I know how to use both, I do love the many bells and whistles at Wordpress but Blogger still has that homey, first blog, feel. I will continue to use it until it ends, or evolves into something unpalatable. The world of social media is changing all the time and I can understand that companies want to only keep the products that are profitable (Blogger apparently isn't) but I think being some of the richest people in the world, Google should let us keep Blogger.

  4. Hi Megan! Well, I must say you got my attention too ;O) LOL!! No, I'm joking but the good thing was that I could see your update on my reading list on my Blogger dashboard!
I read your post with interest but as you know my knowledge of the English language is not very well. So I have one question: which one of your sites can I use best, Blogger or Wordpress? I find out that I can see both when I click on the links in your post. I don't want to make the wrong choice. Yes, I know I am one of those old ladies who do have their issues with the digital world.......;), but please, what do you think that for me will be best?
I am glad to read that you've find your way in this.
Stay safe, take care, dear Megan.
    Hugs, Ilona

    1. Ilona, ha ha, we're probably exactly the same age! Some day when this pandemic is over, we're going to meet in person and have a cup of tea. It is my dream to see your farmhouse in person.
      Follow www.blog.creativeme.co.za.
That address belongs to me independent of Blogger. If something goes wrong, I can always use it to start a blog somewhere else.

  5. Ahh the 'joys' of social media! - but where would we be without it?
I am so glad you persisted and got all the issues in your media relationships sorted out and the new set-up makes perfect sense. I look forward to keep up with both.

    1. Thank you, Anna! There's a saying that someone knows just enough to be dangerous. That's me with social media. I'm so relieved that I was able to have it sorted out. I was having nightmares of losing ten years' worth of readers.

  6. Writer's lesson No. 1: A catching headline pays off! *LOL* Well, you got my attention - and after reading this I learned that you had quite some issues until this divorce was over. Bless the technical support, according to my knowledge you have been lucky with a support being in fact supportive... and it's great to hear that you continue to be a blogger. So here's to the end of your love triangle and a happy divorce! ;O)

    Hugs

    1. Ha, Birgit. Snarky headlines is one of the reasons I love my personal blog. When you write for social marketing, you have to say something like 'How I solved my URL difficulties in 102 easy steps', otherwise Google doesn't index your site correctly. When I write for my pleasure, I can say what I like and only the people who really want to will bother to read it. With that obstacle out of the way, I hope to be inspired to write more frequently again.
Loving your detailed blog posts by the way, and your quote about happiness being the sum of small pleasures had me smiling for days. So true and so relevant to us!
