H is for Hospital, or a Medical Emergency at Least

Mouses Houses
I woke up last Monday with excruciating pain in my left (dominant) arm. A trip to my GP resulted in a packet of pain killers. They made me throw up for a whole day non-stop and did nothing to relieve the pain. Two days later I saw a specialist, who did a sonar and gave me the happy news that the tendons in my shoulder are still attached. There's a lot of inflammation but seeing as nothing's broken, my case is uninteresting and they shoed me out the door to 'wait and see'.

So, for the last week, I haven't been able to sit, stand or lie down because my arm is tormenting me. It also won't let me lift things, write, or type on my keyboard. Because I'm not sleeping, my sense of humor and all enthusiasm for Germany has left me. All I can think about is dragging luggage on and off trains; when I'm not busy panicking because nothing's packed or ready to go. I'm considering a trip postponement.

Tomorrow I'm going back to the doctor. Something needs to be done.

The mouse maker at Mouses Houses has broken her arm. I'm so happy that I'm not alone. Misery loves company.

  1. Oh dear Megan! I am so sorry to hear about your mystery illness and the distress it is causing for you! There is nothing worse than not knowing what is causing the problem and especially when you can't get anyone to do anything other than prescribe opioids which do not help anyway. I hope you get to the right medical professional and get this resolved quickly so that you can get your plans back on track. Sending prayers to your angels to do a better job looking out for you. Please do update as you learn anything new. Hugs!!!

  5. Ugh. It's horrible to have pain and worse when you don't know what caused it or how to make it better. I hope it's fleeting and you're soon back to health Megan

  7. Hi, Megan - I'm so sorry; your condition would be bad at any time, but how sad to have it happen when you have so much to do in preparation for your trip to Germany. I hope your next trip to the doctor will result in some needed help!

  9. Megan, this sucks. So sad to hear about your arm and really hoping it improves quickly. I am going to give you my 2c worth though - back in 2014, a couple of weeks before flying to the US for a holiday and a Rik Pierce workshop, we got cold feet and didn’t want to go. We did, and it was amazing and a month later Rik had his bad accident and stopped teaching classes. Even though it’s a tough call, going to Germany is a pretty good opportunity. Sending hugs.

  10. Dear Megan, I'm very sorry to hear this bad news. And it adds to the pain that the doctors play the wait-and-see-and-swallow-pills-card and that your trip to Germany comes closer. I understand that you're thinking about postponing it, the vision of such a long flight must be terror for somebody not knowing how to sit, stand and lie at the moment. My very best wishes for you for a quick and fast recovery and a very soon end to the pain.

    Hugs
    Birgit

  11. Oh no Megan how awful! From your description, I had something very similar not so very long ago which turned out to be pinched nerves in my neck. It was the most horrible pain I have ever experienced and rendered me completely incapable of doing anything at all, so I know exactly how you must feel.
I do hope your doctor finds the source of the problem quickly so that you can get back to your old self and get on that plane feeling exciting about your trip.
